Once a year, the Sächsische Staatskapelle treats the citizens of Dresden and their guests to open-air classical music on the grassland in front of the Gläserne Manufaktur, with a relaxed picnic atmosphere.

At the 12th KLASSIK PICKNICKT event, the orchestra, led by the Austrian conductor Franz Welser-Möst, will whisk you away to Vienna with pieces by Franz Schubert and the Strauss dynasty. Featuring three different dance styles – the waltz, the mazurka and the csárdás – the programme provides a good selection of Hapsburg Austria’s wide range of light music. The concert will begin with Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 3, which he composed at the age of 18. Virtuoso Frank Peter Zimmermann will also interpret Bohuslav Martinů’s Violin Concerto No. 2, which the Czech composer created in 1943.

As always, guests are strongly encouraged to bring a picnic basket and a blanket.
