THE Semperoper.
A LONG Tradition.
When Dresden’s Semperoper Opera House and “Die Gläserne Manufaktur” signed their partnership agreement on 17 June 2011, it wasn’t merely the first stroke on an empty sheet of paper.
In August 2002, when sections of the opera house stood under water as a result of the Elbe River flooding, Volkswagen immediately declared that its rooms would be made available to the opera as a rehearsal base and venue for its production of “Carmen”.
Since then, both of these Dresden-based institutions, whose core focus couldn’t be more different from each other, but whose high standards align, have already managed to fill some pages in their still short, but inspiring history together. The latest chapter is the ballet project “Silent Spring”.
Hubert Waltl, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars Brand with responsibility for ‘Production and Logistics’ emphasised that “Our understanding of social responsibility and cultural commitment is something we want to express in concrete terms here in the state capital of Saxony”. With an eye towards the opera season of 2012/13, Waltl continues “We are particularly looking forward to impressive and extraordinary concerts and opera performances with Christian Thielemann”.
Dr. Ulrike Hessler, Artistic Director at the Semperoper, expressed her delight saying “The long-term commitment of “Die Gläserne Manufaktur” gives our ensemble a completely different environment in which to advance its creativity.”
